Up to 70 Rhinos to Charge on to Streets of Cheshire West from Next Week

UP to 70 decorated rhino sculptures will stampede onto the streets of Chester next summer capturing the imagination of tourists and residents alike.

Rhino Mania, to be launched next week, follows in the footsteps of Liverpool’s successful Superlambanana public art festival and Manchester’s Cow Parade.

Organised by Chester Renaissance and Wild in Art, the 10 week happening, from early July to mid September 2010, will lead to the appearance of scores of 5ft by 6ft rhino sculptures created by local artists.

It will provide a trail through the city, from the river to the business park, out to the zoo – which has endangered black and one horned rhinos – and through Chester’s neighbourhoods, encouraging visitors to join the charge.

Organisers say the trail will attract thousands of people and encourage residents to be “visitors in their own city” – highlighting gems of the city, perhaps unseen by visitors and residents, as well as areas of development and regeneration.
