SA Rhinos Go Home

Tanzania will spend $750000 to import rhinoceroses from South Africa and settle them in the Serengeti National Park.

"Thirty-two rhinos are to be imported from South Africa in April," said Allan Kijazi, planning director of the Tanzania National Parks Authority.

The number of rhino in the Serengeti animal sanctuary is estimated at between 30 and 35.

"That number could reach 67," Kijazi explained.

"These black rhinos (Diceros bicornis) were originally taken from Tanzania to South Africa, so now they are returning to their original habitat," Kijazi said.
